Under the Executive Power coordination, National Telecommunication  Agency (ANATEL) has the authority to represent Brazil in telecommunications international organizations as: International Telecommunication Union (ITU), an United Nations specialized agency; Inter-American Telecommunication Commission, an organism of Organization of American States, International Telecommunications Satellite Organization (ITSO); and International Mobile Satellite Organization (IMSO).

ANATEL also has the role of promoting the interaction with various governments and other national telecommunications regulators. In order to exchange experiences and to achieve common objectives, periodically, meetings are held with the countries that compose Mercosur through the Working Subgroup 1 - Communications (SGT-1).

Furthermore, ANATEL defends Brazilian interests in other entities and associations as: Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN); World Trade Organization (WTO); Latin American Forum of Regulators (Regulatel) and the Communications and Telecommunications Regulators Association of Portuguese Language Countries Community (Arctel-CPLP)

The involvement of all these international forums contributes to the development of national sector regulation and the positioning of Brazilian foreign policy. To this end, the Agency created the Brazilian Communications Commissions (CBCs) that discuss technical issues related to telecommunications in order to gather suggestions, clarify concepts and consolidate proposals to guide the country’s position in the international scenario.

The international scope of activities  and the relationship between Anatel and international  organizations, administrations and institutions are coordinated by the Office of International Affairs.
